The world requires petroleum to function. Much petroleum comes from places where the population is not too cool with the USA. Thus, there is a push for offshore drilling in the USA. It is pretty safe most of the time. But, when disaster strikes, you have no choice but to think about the necessities that petroleum provides. Do we as a country really need so many cars? Should public transportation be implemented on a grander scale? Is a push toward greener energy really so bad?

If the link doesn't work, go to http://www.noaa.gov/index.html and click the picture of the oil on the main page.
Way more than 5000 gallons of oil per day is going into the gulf. After all of this bad weather gets out of here the winds are gonna shift back out of the NW pushing the slick back out into the gulf. That's probably gonna ruin deep sea fishing. They said that the bluefin tuna is taking a whooping.
